The African Swine Fever (ASF) Public Awareness project, funded by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), concluded this week with a two-day closeout workshop in Tbilisi, Georgia. This regional project included delegates from Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine, with representatives from Azerbaijan observing. Each country’s delegation developed a public awareness and outreach campaign to educate and train farmers, veterinarians, and hunters about ASF. At the workshop, each country presented the strategies they used to develop and implement their campaigns, and also discussed challenges and future awareness projects. Regional cooperation and information sharing is critical to Georgia’s – and the region’s – health security.
