USDA Sharing the Experience on Risk-based Import Inspection Procedures and Practices
USDA experts hosted a workshop in cooperation with the Georgian Ministry of Finance’s Customs Department of Revenue Service, and the National Food Agency of the Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture to strengthen institutional capacity in food safety and customs inspection services in Georgia. Thirty attendees from both Georgian agencies attended the workshop. The workshop is the next milestone in a project begun in 2019, which already deployed online training, locally delivered in-person workshops, and an exchange visit held in the United States in May 2023. This workshop deepens Georgia’s technical understanding risk-based import inspection systems to facilitate agricultural trade and Georgia’s compliance with Sanitary and Phytosanitary norms.
