On May 25, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) expert statistician Michael Steiner participated in an Agricultural Statistics Data Users Workshop, along with officials from the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture, National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), and the Food and Agricultural Organization.
The workshop focused on results of the Georgian Agricultural Census, and statistical activities following an agricultural census. GEOSTAT recently released results from the Georgian Agricultural Census, which was the first agricultural census in 10 years. The Georgian Agricultural Census provides a comprehensive source of statistical information for agricultural policy purposes, as well as for research, business and other uses.
USDA work on agricultural statistics in Georgia is within the framework of USDA’s Georgia Agricultural Policy Initiative (GAPI), a three-year project funded by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
