On March 23-25, 2015, Brigadier General Normand Cooling, Deputy Commander of US Marine Corps Forces Europe, is visiting Georgia. The purpose of his visit is to participate in the departure ceremony of Georgia’s 43rd Battalion, the first battalion of Georgian soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan in support of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission. After the United States, Georgia continues to represent the largest force contributor to NATO missions in Afghanistan. Approximately 550 Georgian soldiers will deploy to Afghanistan with the 43rd Battalion in late March. During his visit, Brigadier General Cooling will also review the training being provided to Georgian soldiers by US Marines in support of their deployments to NATO missions in Afghanistan.
