Religious freedom is a universal human right. The United States is committed to defending and supporting it.
In many countries around the world, people are persecuted and imprisoned for their religious beliefs. That is why the State Department’s International Religious Freedom Report is so important.
The annual report comprehensively reviews the status of religious freedom in nearly 200 countries and territories. It tracks violations and abuses of religious freedom as well as positive governmental or societal actions. The report also informs critical U.S. foreign policy decisions.
Past years’ reports are available on the State Department’s website. Each report provides country-specific information that covers January 1 to December 31 of the previous year. The 2021 report will be released June 2, 2022, and will be available at the same location.
